A continuous line of turquoise oval stones, each one bezel-set in gold, runs the full circumference of the neck as a choker. The stones are clean and even, the setting minimal — the colour is doing every bit of the work. Against a yellow or orange outfit, firoza sits like it was made for the combination. Because in Jaipur's jewellery tradition, it was.
Firoza — the Persian word for turquoise, carried into Indian craft centuries ago when the stone arrived via the Silk Road and never left. Jaipur's artisans have been setting firoza since the Mughal era, and the colour has lost none of its power in that time.
